Lawmaker Canvasses Protection For Farmers

MEMBER Representing Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, has appealed to the security agencies to provide security cover for farmers in his constituency to enable them acess their farms without any molestation and intimidation by gunmen.

The federal lawmaker who made the appeal during the distribution of fertilizers to farmers in his constituency held at Jos South local government area of the state said many of the farmers are still afraid of going to farm for fear of being attack adding that many communities had also been sacked and taken over by foriegners.

Hon. Baggos made passionate appeal to the security agencies to help the people reclaim their villages and farms to avert looming food scarcity in the state and for integration of the displaced people back to their communities.“As farmers, we must ensure that our farmlands are secure, cultivated to address the looming issues of food insecurity in the country. This will enable us to produce sufficient food for the constituency, state, and Nigeria. Those displaced are eager to return to thier respective villages but they could not do so for fear of attack. So the security agencies need to wade in to address the situation.

“I will not sit down while my people are hungry, I will not watch when my people are scared of going back to farm because of insecurity. I will do everything possible to ensure that insecurity is address in Jos South and Jos East and the entire state to enable our people acess their farms without fear.

“We will make sure that we open new roads from the farms into the communities to ensure that people are secure and the food produced are also secure”.

He added that the people of the constituency being farmers will be encouraged through provision of incentives to further stimulate thier interests in agriculture while the children and young ones will also be encouraged education will

Bagos said the constituency had secured four-kilometre roads intervention through the Rural Development Agency adding that two-kilometre will go to Jos South and two kilometre to Jos East and solicited the cooperation of all.

Bagos said he had presented a bill on the need for the establishment of Federal University of Agriculture in Plateau and that he would lobby his colleagues to ensure that the dream comes to reality.
